Our service area at a glance
Afvoer Ontstoppen works throughout the Netherlands, in villages as well as big cities. Every city has its own building history, and that determines where blockages tend to occur. A historic centre full of centuries-old buildings has different problems from a town that grew rapidly in the 1970s or a new-build estate with plastic drainage. The city pages go into more detail about your area. Our home page explains how we go about drain unblocking, from your first call to the explanation afterwards.
North Holland and Flevoland
Amsterdam and Zaandam
In the canal ring, the buildings stand on wooden piles, and over the centuries their drains have often been altered several times. When it comes to drain unblocking in Amsterdam, we're just as much at home in the blocks of flats of Nieuw-West as in a canal house. A little further north is Zaandam, the heart of the municipality of Zaanstad, with its distinctive wooden houses along the river Zaan. You can call us for drain unblocking in Zaandam too.
Haarlem and Hoofddorp
Along the river Spaarne and in the narrow streets around the Sint-Bavokerk (St Bavo's Church), the old buildings are narrow, and the kitchen and bathroom were often fitted much later. For a drain unblocking company in Haarlem, call the same number as everywhere else. Hoofddorp, the main town in Haarlemmermeer, lies in a reclaimed polder and has many newer residential areas, such as Floriande and Toolenburg. Read more about drain unblocking in Hoofddorp.
Almere
Almere is a young city, built from the 1970s onwards on land that was once the seabed. Its sewers are relatively new, so blockages are mainly caused by what goes down the drain: wet wipes, grease and hair.
The province of South Holland
Rotterdam
In Rotterdam, the older buildings stand on piles in clay and peat, while the city centre was rebuilt after the war with flats and tower blocks. A blockage at the bottom of a shared soil stack can quickly affect every flat on the same staircase. The city page covers everything you need to know about drain unblocking in Rotterdam.
The Hague and Zoetermeer
The Hague, officially 's-Gravenhage, stretches from the dunes at Scheveningen to neighbourhoods dating from around 1900, such as the Statenkwartier and the Zeeheldenkwartier. In those older streets, some sewer connections may still date from when the houses were built. For details, see the page on drain unblocking in The Hague. Zoetermeer, one of the designated growth towns, went from village to city in a short space of time, with neighbourhoods full of home zones (woonerven), flats and family houses from the 1970s and 1980s. There too, we're the drain unblocking company in Zoetermeer to call.
Utrecht and Amersfoort
The city of Utrecht
The wharf cellars along the Oudegracht canal lie below street level and often have a long drain or one that runs uphill. In complete contrast, there's Leidsche Rijn, one of the largest new-build areas in the country. Our page on drain unblocking in Utrecht explains how we handle both.
Amersfoort
In Amersfoort's medieval centre, by the Muurhuizen and the Koppelpoort gate, the pipes are very different from those in newer neighbourhoods such as Nieuwland and Vathorst. Every building period has its own weak spots.
The province of North Brabant
Eindhoven
Eindhoven grew rapidly thanks to Philips. Workers' housing, as in Philipsdorp, stands side by side with former factory sites such as Strijp-S, where people now live and work.
Tilburg
Tilburg grew big on textiles, and you can still see it in the long terraces of workers' houses. Beside the railway, the old workshop site has been transformed into the Spoorzone. If you need a drain unblocking company in Tilburg, ours is the number to call.
Breda
The centre of Breda, with the Grote Kerk at its heart and a ring of canals around it, has many old buildings with bars and restaurants at street level. Sooner or later, the grease from those kitchens ends up in the drains.
Den Bosch
The old centre of 's-Hertogenbosch is cut through by the Binnendieze, a waterway that runs underneath houses and streets in many places. With its old cellared buildings and narrow alleyways, the city calls for a careful approach.
The province of Gelderland
Nijmegen
Nijmegen lies on the river Waal and has expanded considerably to the north, where the Waalsprong, built around the old village of Lent, forms a new district.
Arnhem
Arnhem lies on the Rijn (Rhine), with hilly neighbourhoods to the north rising towards the Veluwe and parks such as Sonsbeek. In a heavy downpour, the water there runs quickly down to the lower-lying streets, and all that greenery means leaves in the gutters. Read more about our approach as a drain unblocking company in Arnhem.
Apeldoorn
There are a lot of old trees around Het Loo Palace and along Apeldoorn's avenues, and the gardens are spacious. That means leaves in the gutters and roots that work their way into garden sewers.
The provinces of Overijssel and Groningen
Zwolle
Inside Zwolle's old city moat, near the Sassenpoort gate, the buildings are centuries old, whereas Stadshagen is all new-build housing. Two worlds in one Hanseatic city.
Enschede
Enschede, in the Twente region, has long been a textile town, and alongside its old workers' neighbourhoods it is home to the University of Twente campus. There's more on the page about drain unblocking in Enschede.
The city of Groningen
Groningen is a true student city: many old buildings in and around the city centre have been split up into rooms, with several residents sharing one drain. That puts a lot of strain on kitchen and toilet pipes.
How the call-out works
After your call, we send the engineer who can get to you fastest. They're usually there within the hour, but that depends on the time of day, the traffic and the distance. During the call we give you an expected arrival time, so you're not left waiting at home for nothing.
As for the cost: clearing a blockage costs from €129, call-out charge not included. We'll tell you the call-out charge in advance. An out-of-hours rate applies in the evening, at night, at weekends and on public holidays, and for larger jobs you can ask for a quote.
