Afvoer Ontstoppen focuses on one thing, all over the Netherlands: blocked drains and sewers, from a slow-draining washbasin to a silted-up sewer pipe under the garden. You get a price estimate up front and, once the work is done, a clear explanation of what caused the blockage.

What we stand for

  • Specialists, not all-rounders

We don't do renovations or installation work. We focus entirely on drains and sewers, so the engineer who comes out to you knows exactly how blockages behave.

  • A price estimate up front

When you call, we give you a price estimate before anything starts and tell you what the call-out charge will be. If it turns out more work is needed once we're there, we check with you before going any further.

  • On the phone, even at night

A blockage won't wait until Monday morning. That's why we answer the phone day and night, including weekends and public holidays, and book an engineer straight away.

  • The cause explained

The job isn't really done until you know why the pipe was blocked. The engineer tells you what they found and how to stop it happening again.

Specialists in blockages

We do just one thing: get drains and sewers flowing again. That might sound limiting, but it's a deliberate choice. A blockage looks simple enough: water that won't drain away. The cause, though, could be anywhere – in the trap under the washbasin, in the soil stack of a block of flats or several metres further on, in the underground drain beneath the garden. Because we concentrate on nothing else, we find that cause faster and solve the problem more thoroughly.

The engineer who rings your doorbell arrives with the right equipment and knows where to look, so you don't end up having someone round twice for the same problem.

We help people living in houses and flats, as well as landlords, owners' associations (VvEs) and businesses. A restaurant kitchen with a greasy waste pipe needs a different approach from a student house where the toilet keeps getting blocked, or a block of flats with a shared stairwell where the soil stack is blocked at the bottom. We know the difference, and we adapt our tools and methods accordingly.

Our name says exactly what we do

We deliberately chose a name that doesn't beat about the bush: Afvoer Ontstoppen is Dutch for drain unblocking. Anyone looking for someone to unblock a drain should be able to see at a glance that they've come to the right place. The name is also a promise to ourselves that we'll stick to our trade. No kitchens, no central heating boilers, no dormer windows – just blockages in every shape and form, from the toilet to the garden sewer. Our home page gives a short overview of how we approach drain unblocking.

How we work, step by step

From phone call to free-flowing drain

Every job starts with a phone call. We ask which drain is blocked, whether several are playing up at once, what kind of home you live in and whether you've already tried anything yourself. From your answers we can often make a good initial diagnosis. If the problem is probably in the trap, the engineer needs different tools from those for a blocked underground drain or a garden sewer choked with roots.

Once there, the engineer starts by finding the cause. They then choose the method that suits the blockage: a plunger or hand-held drain snake, an electric drain machine, a high-pressure water jetter or an inspection camera. They work tidily, put down dust sheets where needed to protect your floor and clear up afterwards.

Afterwards: knowing why it went wrong

Clearing a pipe is one thing. Stopping it from silting up again is just as valuable, if not more so. That's why, once the work is done, the engineer tells you what they found. Was it grease or wet wipes, or is there a sagging section in the pipe? If the problem keeps coming back, a drain camera inspection will give you a definite answer. You also get practical tips that suit your home and your habits.

Rates and price estimates

Before the engineer sets off, we give you a price estimate based on what you've told us on the phone. Clearing a blockage costs from €129. The call-out charge comes on top, and we tell you what that is in advance as well. An out-of-hours rate applies to work in the evening, at night, at weekends and on public holidays, and we tell you about that on the phone too.

For larger jobs, such as cleaning a long sewer pipe or inspecting the drainage system under commercial premises, you can ask for a quote first. If the engineer finds there's more going on than expected, they stop and talk it through with you. It's up to you whether they carry on.

Available by phone, day and night

You can reach us 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 085 333 4698, public holidays included. A blockage needs dealing with quickly, and a short conversation works better than a string of messages back and forth.

When you call, we'll tell you when to expect the engineer. They're usually at your door within the hour; the exact time depends on the time of day, the traffic and the distance. If the job is less urgent, we're happy to book a time that suits you better. Our contact page explains what's useful to have to hand when you call.

Cities and regions

We cover the whole of the Netherlands, from the Randstad to Brabant, Gelderland, Overijssel and Groningen. In every region we know the typical problems: old clay pipes in pre-war neighbourhoods, shared soil stacks in blocks of flats, roots from street trees in garden sewers, and new-build estates where it's mostly wet wipes and grease that block things up.

Our locations page has more on a number of cities – drain unblocking in Amsterdam, for example, or the situation in Eindhoven. If your town isn't listed, just give us a call.

A 5/5 rating in Google reviews

Customers rate us 5/5 based on 48 Google reviews. We don't see that score as a reason to rest on our laurels, but as a standard we have to live up to again on every job. As far as we're concerned, it comes down to things that really ought to go without saying.

What matters to us on every job

  • The phone gets answered, even at three in the morning.
  • You get a price estimate up front.
  • The engineer looks for the cause, not just the quickest fix.
  • Your bathroom or kitchen is left as clean as it was before.
  • You understand what was wrong and how to prevent it.

How we can help

Our work ranges from the smallest blockage to the biggest sewer problem. A toilet that won't flush is a job for toilet unblocking, and a kitchen drain full of grease comes under kitchen sink unblocking. If the problem is deeper in the system, sewer cleaning with a high-pressure jetter is the most thorough approach. Everything else we do, from shower drains to downpipes, is listed on our services page.
