Blockages can only be reported to Afvoer Ontstoppen by phone. You'll reach us on 085 333 4698 day or night, on weekdays and at weekends, and on public holidays too. We've deliberately chosen to work by phone. If your bathroom is flooding, you don't want to be waiting for a reply, and a quick conversation gets further than messages going back and forth. That's why we don't offer chat or messaging.

When you call, you'll speak to someone who knows their way around drains. We ask specific questions until it's clear where the blockage probably is and which tools the engineer needs to bring. That way, you won't end up with someone at your door carrying nothing but a plunger while it's your underground drain that's blocked.

Useful to have ready when you call

The better we understand the situation, the better prepared the engineer will be. It helps if you have the following to hand:

your address and postcode, and whether it's a house, a flat or commercial premises;
which drain is blocked, and whether other drains in your home are also slow;
how long the problem has been going on and whether it has happened before;
what you've already tried, such as a plunger or a drain unblocker;
whether you know where the inspection chamber or rodding eye is;
in a flat: whether the neighbours above or next door are having problems too.

Don't worry if you can't answer some of these questions. We'll go through them with you, and the engineer will find out the rest on site.

After the call: what happens next

Price estimate and arrival time

At the end of the call we give you a price estimate and tell you roughly when the engineer will arrive. They only set off once you've agreed. They're usually with you within the hour, although that depends on the time of day, the traffic and the distance.

When the engineer arrives

The engineer first checks where the blockage is and what caused it. They then clear the pipe and make sure the water drains away properly again. If they come across something that needs more work than you agreed, they'll talk to you before carrying on. Finally, they explain what the cause was and how to stop it happening again.

While you wait

Leave the blocked drain alone and don't run the washing machine or dishwasher. Move anything that could get wet. Don't pour chemical drain unblocker down the pipe: it rarely dissolves the blockage, and the engineer then has to work with a corrosive liquid sitting in the pipe.

Our engineers work throughout the Netherlands, in big cities and small villages alike. The page about our service area shows which cities have their own page. If your town isn't listed, just call – we'll come out to you too.

Clearing a blockage costs from €129. The call-out charge isn't included, and we tell you what it is in advance. For emergency work outside office hours we charge an out-of-hours rate, and for large jobs you can ask for a quote.

What you can call us about

A lot of our calls are about a toilet that won't flush – that's what toilet unblocking is for. If water won't drain away in the bathroom, shower drain unblocking is the answer. If the blockage is further along the pipe, for example outside under the paving, sewer cleaning with a high-pressure jetter will clear it.
